Our Serenity Retreat is for those in recovery from addictions. It’s a chance to explore recovery with an inspiring director in a setting conducive to prayer, reflection relaxation, healing and growth. Retreat theme for 2019:
“The Blessings of Recovery”
The Retreat Center is glad to welcome back Sister Linda Fischer ASC, a member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ from Columbia, PA to lead another Serenity Retreat. A teacher by profession, Linda left the classroom in 2005 and has been involved in full-time 12 Step retreat ministry since then. She gives Retreats for men and women in recovery all across the United States. Sr. Linda has been a grateful recovering alcoholic for the past 29 years and says she loves facilitating recovery retreats because “she receives every bit as much as she gives.” She calls her own journey in recovery one of the greatest blessings in her life.
Our Serenity Retreats are for men and women who are in recovery from alcohol or chemical addictions. They provide an opportunity for people who follow the 12-step program to gather together to focus on their spiritual lives, and share their struggles and joys in a safe and respectful context.
The late Gerald May said, “To be human is to be addicted…and to be addicted is to be in need of God’s grace.”
“Many of the old understandings to which I had been addicted were stripped away, leaving a desert like spaciousness where my customary props and securities no longer existed. Grace was able to flow into this emptiness, and something new was able to grow. Fresh understandings took root, and the insights that emerged were clearer, simpler, and more beautiful.” Gerald May, Addiction And Grace.
