We are 1/3rd of the way to our boiler/heating system replacement campaign goal of $325,000!

We have now come to a critical moment in the retreat center’s history as we need to replace our boiler/heating system. Although it has occasionally needed repairs, the current heating system has served us well for our fifty-six years but has come to the end of its life.

We have embarked on a campaign to raise $325,000 to cover the entire heating system project, including a maintenance fund for its annual upkeep. Quite simply, we need to Rekindle the Flame.

Our replacement equipment will be much more energy efficient, often running at only 10 percent of its full capacity as weather conditions dictate. There will be times when the new equipment will run on as little as 100,000 BTU compared to the 2,000,000 BTU output every time the current boiler/heating system ignites.

To say this is a big project in the scope of things we have done around here would be an understatement. Abatement-removal of the existing boiler room piping, demolition of the existing hulking boiler body, removal of other ancient outdated water pressure tank systems, painting, and finally installation of the new equipment involves several stages.

Funding for the boiler replacement, our biggest capital expenditure ever will be from a variety of sources, perhaps most importantly from friends of Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center like you. We are titling this fund drive Rekindle the Flame. Donations are appreciated at any level.

Thanks to a rousing start to our campaign at the recent Franciscan International Award Dinner (May 5th) we are thrilled to say we are one-third of our way to our campaign goal of $325,000!

Now is the time to donate if you feel moved to support Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center in our time of need for the once-in-a-lifetime boiler replacement campaign. Please mail a check to the address below with the phrase ‘Rekindle the Flame’ on the memo line or use the button below to make your donation.

The Friars and retreat center staff thank you for your support. Feel free to contact us if you would like to tour the retreat center in person as part of discerning your donation.

Closing thoughts from Father Jim Kent’s comments in our latest newsletter:We count on our friends and supporters to help us reach this goal, so to provide a warm and welcoming place for retreatants in the decades to come. Of course, we also and always count on God to help us journey to Jerusalem—and beyond.
