Individual Private Retreats
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”— Jesus ; Mark 6:31
Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center offers space for people to come on individual retreats during the week from Tuesday-Friday. These individual or private retreats allow individuals to spend one or more nights at the Retreat Center at a time that is convenient for them.
During your stay your schedule will be your own. You are welcome to spend your time where the Spirit leads you whether it’s on our prairie or forest trails, on a bench overlooking a pond, in our striking wood paneled chapel or simply relaxing in your room.
Retreatants will need to bring their own food for meals and prepare that food in the kitchenette in room 39 of our Eastern wing. This space will have a small microwave and toaster oven, as well as a small refrigerator and freezer. Retreatants may check in from 10:00 am-7:00 pm; check out at 10:00 a.m. The cost is $75.00 per night. Limit of one person per room. One on one Spiritual Direction may be available if the schedule allows for an additional charge. Please contact us at 952-447-2182 for more information or to arrange a time for your stay. The grounds, trails, sitting areas, library chapel and the room itself are all very inviting and restorative.
Eight reasons you may want to consider creating your own private retreat time:
1– Experience Christ’s love at unhurried pace
2– Step away from the busyness to think, relax and take care of self – nurture self,
reserve time to be good to yourself
4– Work through a challenge in a space likely to produce favorable solutions
5– Hear God’s (Spirit’s) voice in your life
6– Put first things first – uncover priorities
7– Feel you are resting in the palm of God’s hand
8– Renew your energy and outlook on life
What to expect during your private retreat:
–An inviting private room at the end of our East wing with a queen sized bed, sheets, pillows,
blankets and towels, glider armchair, personal writing desk and chair, sink, shower and toilet
–Pleasant view of courtyard or wooded area
–Kitchenette including counter space, microwave oven, toaster oven, hot pot, refrigerator – freezer, dining table, dishes utensils, and chairs
– Access to our outdoor Stations of the Cross, Labyrinth, shrines, benches and 60 acres of wooded or open prairie trails
– Use of our library and indoor chapel for prayer, meditation and relaxation
– Access to Spiritual Direction for added fee
What is not included:
– Food – bring your own food and preferred beverages for your stay
– Program or schedule – unlike our weekend retreats which feature four carefully composed conferences around a yearly theme, the time on individual private retreats is yours to use as you see fit.
Quotes from famous retreatants:
“I have felt and still feel more composed and ready for whatever the future may bring”
Pope John the 23rd wrote this about a profound retreat experience he enjoyed on the Danube
River near the date of his 50th birthday. The peace of mind born of this retreat would stay with
him the rest of his life.
“To be alone by being part of the universe — fitting in completely into an environment of woods and silence and peace. Everything you do becomes a unity and a prayer. Unity within and without. Unity with all living things — without effort or contention. My silence is part of the whole world’s silence and builds the temple of God without the noise of hammers.”
— Thomas Merton; A Year with Thomas Merton
